Egg curry calories

By Nirmal Amin. Checked on 14 October 2026.

Egg curry has about 185 calories per egg with its share of gravy, so 2 eggs come to about 365 and 3 to about 550. Each egg is about 70; the oil in the masala is the other big part, about 40 a teaspoon. Dhaba egg curry with 2 eggs, cooked in more oil, runs about 445 to 525.

Egg curry calories: 185 for 1 egg with gravy, 365 for 2 eggs with gravy, 550 for 3 eggs with gravy, 120 for 100 g.

Egg curry is hard-boiled eggs simmered in an onion and tomato masala with ginger, garlic and ground coriander. Bengali dim kosha fries the eggs first, South Indian muttai kuzhambu adds tamarind or coconut, and dhaba anda curry is often oilier and spicier.

The egg itself is a little over a third of the calories here. The oil in the masala is more, so the gravy matters as much as the number of eggs.

Typical values for a home kitchen, for the portion named next to each number. Other sites often show bigger numbers because they count a bigger serving or a restaurant recipe. Your own katori, roti and oil change the number; Slate adjusts for them.

What changes the calories in egg curry?

  • Each egg adds about 70 calories on its own, with about 7 g of protein.
  • Oil is the other big part. Each teaspoon in the masala adds about 40 calories.
  • Frying the eggs first adds a little more oil; coconut milk in the gravy adds about 140 calories per 60 g.
  • Egg bhurji and omelettes are counted by their eggs and the oil in the pan.

How were these numbers worked out?

The recipe is the egg curry in Basic Food Preparation (via the Indian Nutrient Databank): 1 egg with 50 g of tomato, 30 g of onion, ginger, garlic, green chilli and ground coriander, cooked in 2 teaspoons of oil, counted as eaten, at IFCT 2017 values. The egg is 50 g without its shell, as the databank counts it; ICMR-NIN's boiled egg at 90 calories implies a larger egg of about 60 g. The ingredients added together weigh about 150 g, so one egg with its gravy is the whole recipe, 185 calories, and 100 g of the curry is 120. No analysed egg curry exists in IFCT 2017, NIN or USDA FNDDS, so there is no cross-check beyond the egg itself. Dhabas often fry the boiled eggs and use more oil in the masala, so the outside range uses 1.5 to 2 times this recipe's oil. Every dish on Slate is worked out the same way: how Slate counts calories.
