Who we are

Slate is made by Sonal Systems Private Limited (CIN U62099GJ2026PTC179785), A-3, Mehsana Nagar, Nizampura, Vadodara 390002, Gujarat, India. You can reach us at support@writeonslate.com. In these terms, "we" and "us" mean Sonal Systems, and "you" means the person using Slate.

By using Slate you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use Slate.

Who can use Slate

You must be 18 or older to use Slate. Each account is for one person.

Not medical advice

Every number in Slate is an estimate. Slate is not a medical device and is not for diagnosing, treating or preventing any condition.

If you have a medical condition, are pregnant, or if eating feels hard, talk to a doctor. In India, Tele-MANAS is free and available any time on 14416.

Your account

Slate has no login. When you install it, Slate creates an anonymous account tied to your phone. If you delete the app without exporting your Slate first, it may not be recoverable. To keep a copy, use Settings, Your data, Export your data.

Slate Plus

• Prices: ₹399 a month or ₹2,999 a year, in India.
• Free trial: 7 days free on the yearly plan for eligible new subscribers.
• Renewal: Slate Plus renews automatically at the end of each period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it renews. Cancel in your iPhone's Settings, under your name, then Subscriptions.
• Payments and refunds: handled by Apple, under Apple's policies.
• Price changes: prices may change. Apple will tell you before a new price applies.
• Free stays free: nothing that is free today will move behind Plus.
• If Plus ends: nothing is deleted. Plus screens go back to free, history older than 30 days is hidden (not removed), and your custom dishes still work.
• Fair use: AI features have daily limits: 300 unrecognised lines, 25 photos and 40 chat messages a day.

AI features

Slate uses AI to read lines it doesn't recognise, to spot dishes in a photo, and for chat. AI can be wrong, so always check what's added to your Slate. The AI never sets calorie values: every number is calculated by Slate from its own data tables.

Acceptable use

Please don't abuse Slate or the people who run it, scrape or copy its data, reverse engineer the app, overload the service, or misuse the AI features, for example by trying to make them do something other than what Slate offers.

Third-party services

Slate works with services run by others, including Apple, Apple Health, Open Food Facts and apps you connect through Apple Health. Their own terms apply to your use of them.

Your content and our IP

Your Slate belongs to you. You give us a licence to process it only to run Slate for you. We own the Slate app, the Slate name and Slate's data tables.

Apple terms

If you got Slate from Apple's App Store:

• These terms are between you and Sonal Systems, not Apple.
• Apple is not responsible for Slate or its content, and has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for it.
• If Slate fails to meet any warranty that applies, you can tell Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price (if any). Apple has no other warranty obligation for Slate.
• Apple is not responsible for any claims by you or anyone else relating to Slate, including product liability claims, claims that Slate fails to meet legal or regulatory requirements, and consumer protection or privacy claims.
• Apple is not responsible for investigating, defending or settling any claim that Slate infringes someone else's intellectual property rights.
• Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.
• You confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a US Government embargo or designated as a "terrorist supporting" country, and that you are not on any US Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.

Disclaimers

To the extent the law allows, Slate is provided as is, without warranties of any kind.

Limit of liability

To the extent the law allows, our total liability to you is limited to the fees you paid for Slate in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms affects your rights as a consumer under Indian law.

Ending use

You can stop using Slate and delete your data at any time from Settings. We may suspend accounts that break these terms.

Changes

If we change these terms, we'll post the new version here with a new effective date. Material changes will also be shown in the app.

Law and courts

These terms are governed by the laws of India. The courts at Vadodara, Gujarat have jurisdiction.
