Maggi calories
One 70 g pack of Maggi 2-Minute Masala Noodles, cooked in water with its tastemaker, has about 270 calories, with 6 g of protein, 42 g of carbohydrate and 9 g of fat. Two packs are about 540. An egg stirred in makes it about 335, a teaspoon of butter about 305, and a Maggi point's version runs about 315 to 355.

Maggi is the instant noodle India grew up on: a dried noodle cake and a masala tastemaker, cooked in a cup and a half of water for two minutes. At home it gets an egg or vegetables; at the hostel and the hill-station Maggi point it gets butter, cheese and a lot of onion.
The noodle cake is fried before it's dried, which is why a 70 g pack has more fat than the same weight of plain noodles. Water adds nothing, so the cooked bowl has the calories of the dry pack.
Typical values for a home kitchen, for the portion named next to each number. Other sites often show bigger numbers because they count a bigger serving or a restaurant recipe. Your own katori, roti and oil change the number; Slate adjusts for them.

| 2 packs | 540 | 11 g | 83 g | 18 g |

How does home Maggi compare with outside?
A Maggi point cooks the same pack, but starts with butter and onion in the pan, often adds tomato and chilli, and may finish with a slice of cheese or a second tastemaker.
No lab has measured a stall Maggi, so the range below adds 1 to 2 teaspoons of butter and 25 to 50 g of onion and tomato to the pack. Cheese is extra.
| Version | Cals | Fat |

What changes the calories in Maggi?
- What goes in with it. An egg adds about 65 calories, a teaspoon of butter about 35, a slice of cheese more.
- The number of packs: 270 for one, 540 for two. Family packs are weighed in multiples of the same noodle.
- The variety. Atta noodles, oats noodles and the cup versions have their own labels; the values here are for the masala pack.
- Vegetables add little: a pack with 75 g of onion, carrot and capsicum is about 295, against 270 plain.
- Leaving some of the tastemaker out changes the salt far more than the calories.
How were these numbers worked out?
The values are Nestlé India's own for Maggi 2-Minute Masala Noodles, as published on maggi.in per 100 g of the product as sold, noodle cake and tastemaker together: 384 calories, 8.2 g of protein, 59.6 g of carbohydrate and 12.5 g of fat, the only fat in the plain pack. A single pack sold in India is 70 g, so one pack is 0.7 of those values, 270 calories. No cooked weight is used, because the water adds weight and no calories. Egg, onion, carrot and capsicum in the other rows are IFCT 2017 values; butter is USDA's, since IFCT has no butter. No independent analysed value for Maggi exists, so there is no cross-check. A stall or canteen cooks the same pack in butter with onion and often tomato, so the outside range adds 1 to 2 teaspoons of butter and 25 to 50 g of vegetables. Every dish on Slate is worked out the same way: how Slate counts calories.
